Pair of houses. Late C18/C19. Squared, coursed limestone rubble with brick gable stacks and stone slate roof. Double-depth plan. Each of 2 storeys, attic and basement; 1-window range. A symmetrical front has cambered heads to doorways each side of party wall with C20 doors, No.42 with 6/6-pane sashes, No.44 with late C20 casements, and 2 dormers with cambered heads and double casements. INTERIOR: not inspected. The rear of No.42 has a shallow D-shaped pool fed from a spring, set in a rough arched recess below the wall, known as St Aldhelm's Well.
