House, formerly 2 dwellings, now with shops on ground floor. C17, refronted C18 bricks with red dressings. Moulded red brick cornice, parapet with stone coping. Twin old tiled roofs, mansard on left, hipped on right, both with lead roll hips. 2 storeys. First floor with 4 C19 sash windows with divided glazing, flush set with exposed boxes and architrave surrounds. Ground floor to No.38 has C19 shopfront, much altered with pilaster at left surmounted by forward sloping recessed panel, with pediment motif above, to contain old fascia. Ground floor to No.40 has mid C20 shopfront, with brick stallriser, oak display windows, divided by mullions, blind box, and recessed fascia with cornice above. North elevation faces East Street, stuccoed, 2 storeys with twin gables facing street. No.38 first floor 1 modern casement, ground floor recessed door in architrave surround and 1 recessed mullion and transom casement window; No.40, first floor 1 flush-set sash window with glazing bars and architrave surround, ground floor mid C20 oak shop window with small panes, with entrance door to right.
