Formerly known as: No.77 HIGH STREET. House. Late medieval and mid C19. Timber-framed and rendered but with flanks and rear of mid C19 red/brown Flemish bond brickwork. Roofs are of plain tiles. 2 storeys with cellar. Plan formed with 2 unarticulated cross-wings, that to S extended to rear in C19. The cross-wing gables to the front have curious shaped barge-boards and are relatively low pitched. The first floor has four 3-light casements mostly C19 and of varied design, but all with leaded lights. Ground floor has 2 canted, painted brick, bay windows with small-paned double-hung sashes. Between these is a doorcase with convex moulded architrave, cornice over and 6 panel door. Door is framed by narrow glazed sidelights. 6 stone steps with wrought-iron handrails. The N wing has, on ground floor, a C19 mullioned and transomed 3-light casement. The S flank has full stack and windows of small-paned casements and double-hung sashes. The N flank has stack with 2 short diagonal shafts of C19. The S wing projects to the rear with a 2 diagonal shafted stack at gable end. Rear elevation, red/brown brick with tall rebuilt stack of 3 diagonal shafts and casement windows and blind panels with narrow projecting brick frames. To rear of projecting S wing is a single-storey slate roofed extension and behind N wing, a C20 conservatory. INTERIOR centre of block has moulded spine beam and bridging joist with broad chamfer stops, representing former hall. On the first floor, this area has 2 chamfered bridging joists to former floored attic. N wing has jowled posts, exposed on first floor, of wide cross-wing, probably C16 and with splayed, halved and bridled scarf joint in top plate. Ground floor of this wing has lowered floor level and access is gained by short early C19 curved staircase with turned balusters, wreathed hardwood handrail and shaped tread ends. Large stack in rear wall of former hall is probably C17 with old leaded light casement with iron frame lighting rear corridor on first floor. Cellar with walls of rubble and brick. Part of frontage to High Street has high, red brick boundary wall, curving round to SW where there is a garden gate. N and E boundaries have high flint and brick walls, partly rebuilt at house end of N wall and with yard entrance at its W end.
