Timber-framed and plastered, brick, peg and clay tiled roofs.
Plan of approx T form. 2 storeys attics and cellars.
Front N elevation: long house range with slighter half hip
roofed extension at W end, fan-combed panel pargetting c1900.
Large triple square shafted stack at junction of units, second
stack towards E end. Main block, 4 window range, first floor,
three 3-light sash window, 6x4 panes, one fixed window 2x4
panes. Ground floor porch and bay window dividing elevation
into thirds. Porch c1900, brick with projecting gable plate
brackets and gable struts, door contemporary of 4 moulded
panels. Bay window has peg-tiled hipped roof, 1:4:1 lights
with transom, each light a sash 2x5 panes. Central fixed
window 2x4 panes. 3-light window as those on first floor at E
end, 2 cellar lights at E end. W extension - long 8-light
`frieze' window, pantry window half gauze plus casement with
early C19 lozenge pattern glazing bars.
Rear S elevation: similar to front but principal range has 2
mid C19 brick and flint cobble wings with shaped barge-boards
projecting S, larger central, lesser to E. Larger has ground
floor bay window, hipped roof, 1:4:1, transomed sash window,
1x8, 8x8, 1x8 panes. First floor, 3-light sash window, label,
6x6 panes. Large triple shaft stack rises through W roof pitch
with roll moulded cornices. Other 2 stacks of house similarly
rebuilt. Lesser wing single central stair `cross' window,
sashes, 4x8 panes in all. Principal range windows scattered, 2
C19 doors, one between wings with upper glazing, one in line
with principal stack of 4 flush panels. Adjacent C19 casement
window with lozenge glazing bars, similar to one on N front. W
extension has rear slated lean-to with catslide roof. Two
3-light C20 casement windows, one metal, small ancillary mid
C19 brick addition with stack round SW corner.
E end elevation: gable end of main range and sides of flint
wings clear. Lesser wing has 2-storey shallow lean-to roof as
catslide, single upper window, principal block C19 single 2x4
paned ground floor casement window. 2-light window to attic
4x4 panes. W end elevation: timber-framed and pargetted, half
hip gabled end, wall plates project. Attic 3-light window 6x4
panes, C19 red brick addition to SW corner, cement tiled with
ridge stack.
INTERIOR: central timber-framed block, C16 with jowled posts
and heavy cambered tie-beams, principal rafters of side purlin
roof. Step-stopped chamfers to principal members. Floor joists
have diminished haunched tenons. Trusses clasp stack within
`chimney bay'. Evidence of former existence of wide arched
entrance on S side W of stack. Both E and W ends extended in
C19 in timber framing. Mid C19 well stair complete in stair
wing. 2 inter-connecting cellars, brick walls and floors. RCHM
recorded a piece of early C17 panelled door which is still in
situ.
