01/11/72 Nos.10, 12 AND 14 GV II Row of 3 terraced houses. Early C16, 1530 with early C19
refronting and rear additions. Further C20 rear additions.
Timber-framed and plastered, peg-tiled and rear slate roofs,
red brick stack. Plan, street range with rear C19 and C20
additions making irregular F shape. One and half storeys,
Front N elevation: 3 similar units of early C19 doorways
approached by steps, simple flat cornice hoods, doors all of 4
panels, No.14 upper panels glazed within arch shaped heads,
No.12, all panels glazed, No.10 has recessed panels. Adjacent,
2-light casement windows, glazing bars, 4x3 panes, No.12 and
14 early C19, No.10 larger, C20. 3 C20 dormer windows with
2-light casements, glazing bars, 4x3 panes, No.10 larger.
No.14 has barred cellar window and early C19 stack at roof
apex. Rear S elevation: Nos 12 & 14 have C20 flat roofed
additions enclosing a yard, which project from C19 slated
out-shut with ground and first floor C20 casement window, 2
and 3 lights. Additions, No.12, fully glazed door and
single-light casement window on E and S sides. No.14, C20
`stable' door with upper 2x2 paned glazing, C20 3-light
casement 6x3 panes, addition linked to C19 brick and flint
panel out-house with 4-panel door and 2x2 casement window.
No.10 has similar rear additon to No.12.
INTERIOR: No.14 inspected, heavy timber framing, simple crown
post roof and 4-centre arched doorway on street wall (W end)
show early origin. Also, C16 halved and bridled scarf joint on
front and back wall plates and window shutter rebate under
plate at front with associated group of candle/taper flame
burn marks. No.10 has obvious roof break with No.12 which may
be a cross-wing to a single bayed hall (No.12), with No.14
being the service bay as it has no sooting of roof members.
Later work includes the insertion of a C19 stack into
cross-entry area and C19 rear out-shut with segment headed
kitchen fireplace.
