TM 46 SW LEISTON-CUM-SIZEWELL WATERLOO AVENUE 4/45 Church of St Margaret 13.3.51 II*

Parish Church. C15 west tower; the remainder of the church a rebuild of 1854, by E B Lamb. Tower of flint, battlemented, the top section with flushwork decoration; diagonal buttresses. The C19 work is in the Decorated style, cruciform plan, of random flint with horizontal stone bands; plaintiled roof. The interior is notable for the roof design at the crossing, with diagonal beams converging at 2 levels, and linked together by further diagonal struts. Heavy west gallery. C13 font. Good east window by Kempe, dated 1897. Graded II* for originality of design by an important Victorian church architect.
