The follwing building shall be added to the list: SU 47 NW CHADDLEWORTH 7/47 Manor Farmhouse GV II Farmhouse and attached outbuilding, now part of house. Dated 1781, for
Elizabeth Nelson (of Wolley Park); later alterations. Brick in Flemish bond,
house having glazed blue bricks to entrance front and red brick with blue
headers to rest; former outbuilding range of red brick with blue brick bands,
vertical strips, and dressings. Plain tile roofs. House of 3 storeys with
cellar and attic, 3 x 3 bays; former outbuilding range set back on right of one
storey, and attic, 3 bays. House: symmetrical elevation with chamfered plinth
and cambered brick-arched openings. Steps up to central porch which has
pilasters with capitals supporting entablature with dentilled pediment; inner
door of 4 flush panels and leaded, glazed, top panel. Flanking windows have
early C19 sashes, the openings formerly wider and slightly less deep. Above,
windows of 3, 2, 3 lights, each light with horizontal glazing bars and 3 snwll
panes at top. Moulded and dentilled eaves. Roof hipped over front range with
twin ridges behind (at right angles), each with a ridge stack. on right, former
outbuilding (possibly dairy and wash/bake-house) has chamfered plinth; bricked-
up former doorway on right; on left, wide part-glazed door in raised blue-brick
surround with open red-brick pediment; central C20 3-light window in formerly-
wider segmental-arched opening. Rear: house: central entrance has door of 6
flush panels with 2-pane leaded overlight, in flat-roofed blue-brick porch which
has pilasters and cornice. Segmental-arched window to right has wooden mullion
and transom and one remaining leaded casement; small inserted window to left.
on 1st floor, small segmental-arched 2-light window to left, and above porch a
small window with inscribed stone in head (inscription includes Elizabeth
Nelson's name). Flanking this window are 2 bricks initialled 'NK' and 'EK', and
2 rainwater heads embossed 'EN 1781'. Stepped dentilled eaves. Paired hipped
gables, (left one with gabled attic dormer on right side). Outbuilding has
shallow addition to left section (with 2 C20 garage doors) and early C20 added
outshut on right (with door and Welsh slate roof); C20 door between. Left
return: two 2-light cellar windows each with chamfered stone surrounds and iron
stanchions. Tall central stair window with C20 small-pane glazing on left a
window to each floor, that on 1st floor enlarged, each with C20 glazing. On
right an early C19 sash with glazing bars (sill lowered) with bricked-up smaller
window above. Right return: wide 3-light window on right retaining one old
leaded light with decorative catch, the arch with taller central voussoiri
3-light window above; moulded dentilled eaves. Interior: house has panelled and
board doors; panelled window shutters and reveals; panelled cupboards; fire-
places; decorative dado rail to central through-passage; paired arches on
columns at foot of stair which is dog-legged and has closed string, stick
balusters, columnar newels, and ramped handrail; plainer stair rises to attic;
staggered butt-purlin roof. Former outbuilding range has chamfered beams;
wooden stair to attic with strap-hinged board door at foot; formerly a bread-
oven in right-hand room.
