Almshouses and hospital, now cottages. Built circa 1800 by William Rashleigh, extended early C19 and in 1855; restored 1977-8. Stone rubble, No.6 with granite dressings. Slate roofs with gabled ends. Large stone lateral stacks on front.
PLAN: Row of seven 1-room plan almshouses, the original four cottages were extended in the early C19 by three more cottages , and in 1855 a small hospital wing was built at right angles at the right [W] end, containing three rooms [wards] on the ground floor and accommodation for a matron above. Restored in 1977-8 and the seven almshouses converted to three cottages with extensions at the back.
EXTERIOR: Single storey almshouses with seven large lateral stacks at the front and seven gabled stone porches with 4-centred arch doorways, and casements between the porches. On the right a 4-centre arch passageway through, and to right of that a 2-storey gable-ended cross-wing [No.6] with gabled porch in the angle with 4-centred arch, 2 and 3-light granite mullion windows with leaded panes, tablet in gable inscribed "W.R. May 14. 1855", and lateral stack on right side. Whitewashed extensions at rear.
