House. Late C16 with C19 and C20 alterations. Timber-frame, with brick
infill, partially rendered, and rubble, slate roof. L-plan, east/west
range gabled, north/south range attached. East/west range of 3 rooms,
stack between 2 west rooms; 2 rooms to north/south range with intervening
stack. Two storeys, and one storey with attic. East front: gabled wing
to left, gable rendered, with C19 brickwork below; irregular fenestration,
a 2-light C20 casement to first floor, 2, C20 casements below; to right 2,
C20 gabled dormers on first floor; ground floor: to left wooden cross
mullioned window with square stone label, to right a small casement.
The west gable is of rubble, and has a central stack corbelled out from
wall for a first floor fireplace. Entrance in north gable. Framing:
externally fragmentary, visible in east/west range, the two eastern rooms
form 2 bays, with framing visible in south wall, including straight angle
braces. The east gable had intersecting raking struts (visible inside)
producing a decorative effect. Interior: some stop chamfered ceiling beams.
Both main stacks retain timber lintels. In the south room of the north/
south range there is a rectangular enclosure against the wall of stud-and-
plank, perhaps a former buttery or stair enclosure. (RCHM 1, p 41, no 11).
