House. C17, early C19, 1903 (date from owner). Red and yellow
brick, hipped slated roofs, also some machine-made tiles.
Square plan, principally, 2 interlocked L-shaped builds, after
a fire.
EXTERIOR: 2 storeys. NE front elevation of 1903, central range
red brick, both ends break forward, all windows are sashes
with glazing bars. Central round headed porch projects with
heavy jambs, panelled reveals and a deep arch with prominent
alternating red and white voussoirs. Door of 2 leaves, each
with upper and lower panels - central glazing with glazing
bars, 1x3 panes. To S lean-to roofed with flat tiles, 3 narrow
windows, 2x4 panes. First floor, central tripartite window,
1x4, 2x4, 1x4 panes, to S, 2 windows, 2x4 panes, to N, one
window 3x4 panes. N projecting single bay with single triple
window on both floors, ground floor 1x6, 3x6, 1x6 panes, first
floor 1x4, 2x4, 1x4, panes. Stack and ground floor hipped
projection seen on N elevation. S projection, central exterior
stack with first floor window through 2x4 panes, to N similar
window. SE garden elevation, principal range early C19 yellow
brick, with parapet, 6 bays, all windows sashes with glazing
bars and decorative blind boxes. Ground floor windows with
cornice on console brackets reach down to ground, 3x4 panes, 2
with steps from garden as doorways. First floor windows 3x4
panes. Central stack and one at each end of range. To NE 1 bay
end of 1903 block projects. Ground floor window 2x6 panes and
window 2x6 panes and window on SW projecting face, 2x6 panes,
SW elevation - end of SE range, plain - range to NW of less
height, parapet shaped down to lower level, yellow brick, 4
segment headed window range. All windows sashes with glazing
bars. Ground floor, N-S, C20 door with 2 lower panels and
upper glazing with glazing bars, 3x3 panes, window, 3x3 pames,
2 windows 3x4 panes. First floor windows 3x4 panes, blind
attic window recess at SE end. NW elevation irregular to NE
end of 1903 range with stack having ground floor hipped roofed
lean-to, first floor plain sash window. Range to SW, rendered
brick with C20 conservatory, passage with continuous picture
windows and C20 door, fully glazed with glazing bars, 3x6
panes, iron stair and gallery over to first floor, C20 stable
type door with upper glazing with glazing bars, 3x2 panes and
simple glazed fanlight.
INTERIOR: central hall with flying stair in large stair well,
slim banisters and mahogany handrail. Remnant of earlier
house, probably C17 with exposed ceiling joists now plastered
over in rear central section. Fireplace on ground floor with
Dutch tiles.
