House, of 2 adjacent units. Half to W, mid C15, jettied, contiguous with No.9 (qv). E half late C16. Timber-framed and plastered, peg-tiled roofs. Plan T shaped of street range and later rear addition. 2 storeys and cellar. Front, S elevation: E unit, central bow shop window on brackets, deep upper plain frieze, 6x4 panes, doorways each side with shaped hoods on board-cut console brackets. W door unused, moulded door frame, door of 6 panels, lower 4 fielded, upper recessed. E doorway plain, door 6 recessed panels. First floor, central 2-light window c1900 with roll moulded frame and central stile, casements with glazing bars, 4x4 panes. W unit, jetty details all now plastered over, plastered coved eaves. Ground floor, C19 rectangular bay window with glazing bars, 1x3 fixed, 3x3 sliding sashes, 1x3 fixed, shutter hinge recesses remain together with moulded rail at sill level for retaining shutter against house wall. First floor, sliding sash window, glazing bars, 6x2 panes. Also, at E end, single-light window in projecting E end wall. Rear N elevation: street range, first floor, 2x2 paned casement window at E end. Ground floor, gabled additions partly timber-framed, peg-tiled and slate roof, now with C20 details. Central C20 2-section `stable' door with upper glazing 3x2 panes, 3x4 panes sash window boxed out from wall. 2-light casement window 4x3 panes. Stack behind addition rebuilt in Fletton brick. INTERIOR: most framing covered but ground floor of E unit has exposed late C16 oak ceiling joists, flat laid, diminished haunched tenons. Stair trap frame at rear. End wall between units partly exposed with studding belonging to E unit. Roof of E unit of wind braced, trapped side purlin form (seen to continue into No.13 (qv)). W unit stack on rear wall of street range has some C17 brickwork with timber lintel. Both ground and first floor rooms have cyma moulded dado panelling. Good C19 cast-iron fireplace on first floor. Roof rebuilt to simple side purlin type. Cellar contains old brickwork and cobble walling.
