House, now office. C15 and C19, 2 distinct units. 2 storeys
and partial cellar. timber-framed, plastered and brick
respectively. Earlier unit, to N C15 rectangular block with
peg-tiled roof, gable end to street. E front elevation: single
window range, ground and first floor windows both C18 sashes
with glazing bars, 3x4 panes, early C19 doorway adjacent to
window, simple flat hood, reeded pilasters on jambs, door C20
of 6 fielded panels. C15 gable barge-boards have chamfered
cusps and are carried on original projecting horns, tie-beam
projects slightly with moulding. Plastered frontage has
remnants of panelled basket pargetting. Rear, N side partly
contiguous with No.2 (qv), W end projects with ground floor
red brick lean-to slate roofed with C19 2x2 paned casement
window. First floor, late C18 sliding sash with glazing bars,
4x4 panes, adjacent, C20 casement window. Upper plastered wall
has remains of basket pargetting similar to E front.
INTERIOR has 2-bay crown-post roof, stout 2-way bracing to
central crown-post, set on cambered tie-beam, cut back
mortices and tenons for arched braces which have been removed.
Later brick unit to S: C19, rectangular, at junction of Church
Path and Church Street. Hipped, peg-tiled roof. Principal S
Frontage to Church Street of 2 window range, first floor has
early C19 windows, plain reveals, glazing bars, 3x4 panes,
below, string course. Ground floor now has single central
segment headed window with key-stone, sash, with marginal
panes, 3x2 panes. Voussoir over continues out equally each
side and is in line with straight joint in brickwork denoting
a much larger original opening, probably a shop. Below,
voussoired cellar light with decorative iron grille. E
elevation, to Church Path, single window range, 2 early C19
sash windows with glazing bars, 3x4 panes. String course
divides floors, parapet in front of roof hip. Rear abuts
adjacent property. INTERIOR ground floor joists exposed in
cellar are of C16, oak, with diminished soffit tenons, and are
part of an earlier building on the site.
