2 houses. Late C16 framing, early C19 rebuilding, C20
refurbishment. Timber framing, plastered, some late brickwork,
peg and pantiled roofs, red brick stacks. Plan L shape, street
range has large rear range partly shared with Johnsons Yard to
E. 2 storeys, cellars and partial attics.
Front S elevation: plastering has original and restored ashlar
lining coved eaves, 2 similar units. 3-cant bay window through
2 storeys with adjacent doorway having flat cornice hood on
brackets, slender moulded and pulvinated jambs, plain frieze,
door No.30, upper glazing 2x2 panes, lower boarding, No.32 of
6 panels, adjacent boot scraper. Bay windows early C20, simple
sashes, cellar grille and light below. Roof peg-tiled, hipped
and set in at E end, stack c1800 at W end. Single gabled C20
dormer window to No.30, shaped barge-boards, 2-light casement
window 2x2 panes. Rear, N elevation: No.30 single storey
slated outshut, C20 brick over C19 framing, C20 door with
upper glazing, lower framed boarding, adjacent, 2-light C20
casement window. No.32, all rear range to N with 3 C18/19
stacks, peg-tiled but N end pantiled. W side ground floor, C20
2-light casement window, glazed porche with 4 panelled door,
upper pair glazed. First floor, C20 casement windows, one
single-light, one 3-light. W end elevation: No.30 has 3
blocked window apertures. Close timber studding exposed in
ground floor in wall of carriageway of No.28 (qv). E end
elevation: No.32 integrated with No.34 and 1 Johnsons Yard
(qv). 2 C20 casement windows, 2 and 3 lights also small brick
addition.
INTERIOR: No.30. Part of heavy late C16 framing remains
originally terminating E of front door then extended to W end
wall. Rear cranked internal tension brace to jowled post and
transverse tension brace mortice for original W end,
associated stud mortices and wattle groove. Trapped side
purlin roof cambered collars, stack on W. No.32 construction
covered.
