04/02/93 Nos.35, 36 AND 37 GV II Three terraced houses. 1847-49. Developed, and probably
designed, by James Watsaffe. Yellow brick set in Flemish bond,
stucco, roof of slate. Nos 35 and 36 three storeys above
basement, no 37 two storeys. No 35 four bays wide, the two
inner bays standing forward; no 36 three bays wide,
double-fronted; no 37 three bays wide, the outer bay set back.
Basement stuccoed with banded rustication. Ground-floor
windows flat-arched with moulded architraves, balconies on
brackets, and cornices on consoles except outer window of no
35 which lacks a balcony, and outer window of no 37 which has
only a moulded architrave and is blank. First-floor windows
flat-arched with moulded architraves and cornices on consoles,
except for central window of no 36 which has a pediment, and
outer window of no 37 which has only a moulded architrave and
is blank. Second-floor windows have moulded architraves linked
to brackets of eaves cornice. Stucco band to parapet of no 37.
Hipped roofs with stacks at party walls and between two roofs
of no 35. Entrance to no 35 up steps through round-arched
porch with fluted Doric pilasters supporting semi-circular
moulding with scrolling ornament in spandrels and keystone,
dentil cornices, panelled doors of c.1875 and overlight. No 36
has steps up to flat-arched entrance with Doric pilasters,
plain entablature and cornice, panelled door and overlight.
Entrance to no 37 in side elevation, steps up to flat-arched
entrance with Doric pilasters, plain entablature and cornice,
panelled door and overlight. Rear elevations: no 36 has
original semi-circular bay to basement and ground floor, no 35
has c.1875 red brick bay to ground floor with ogee roof.
