5/269 The Malt House
GV II Shown on map as Small's Mill Cottages.
Former mill and house, now house. C17. Limestone ashlar or dressed squared
block, stone slate roof. An L-plan cross-gabled building. Front to south is 2 1/2
storeys, 3-windowed; 1, 2 or 3-light recessed chamfer stone-mullioned casements,
some with leading, with stopped hood moulds. Blocked doorway left of centre,
C20 glazed door to right. Small stack on plain gable to road. Rear wing also
with cross-gable has a 2-light casement and a broad 8-pane sash, over a 3-light
stone mullioned casement with hood; plank door, right. left end has a 2-light
C19 wood casement above a further 2-light. Interior not inspected, but said to
be altered. At one time reputed to have been three cottages. Groups with April
Cottage (q.v.). The entry shall be amended to read:- SO 80 NE PAINSWICK WICK STREET
(East side).
