BURLESCOMBE ST 01 NW 4/14 Stables and barn adjoining - north-west end of Rocknell Farmhouse GV II

Stables and barn. Probably C19, may be earlier. Local stone rubble, slate roof. Plan and exterior description: L-shaped building forming two sides of the farm courtyard, the third side made up by a linhay (q.v.). The north-west side is made up by a threshing barn with opposing full height double doors and short projecting midstrey walls onto the threshing floor. The left (south-west) end is now a workshop with C20 windows below contemporary weatherboarding; this part was probably open-fronted originally. The south-west side is the stables. At the right end is the stable door with overlight and alongside a C20 casement. To left an external flight of stone steps lead up to a doorway into the hayloft. Interior not inspected.
