Details
STAINTON AND LOW LANE, north side NZ 41 SE (4714) THORNTON (off), Stainton.
5/118 Stainton Vale 2.7.76 Farmhouse. G.V. II Farmhouse, mid C18, refaced c.1800; late C18 farm cottage; and mid/late C19 rear porch; now one house. Red brick in English bond: renewed clay pantile roofs with stone ridge and gable copings. 2 storeys, 5 windows. Renewed panelled door and overlight, flanked by renewed large canted bay windows, on ground floor. Renewed sashes. Moulded stone sills and keyed, renewed gauged-brick flat arches on first floor. Shallow parapet with moulded copings. End stacks with stone caps. Right return has horizontal sash windows on ground floor, sash window on first floor and renewed glazing in garret light, all with glazing bars, stone sills and gauged-brick flat arches. Late C20 door and similar garret light in left return. Rear shows round-headed stair window with intersecting head. One-storey, hip-roofed porch with renewed door and window. Lower 2-storey L-plan farm cottage adjoins at left. 3 renewed sash windows and 2 renewed doors. Roof hipped at end, with transverse stack. Outbuildings to south-west of farmhouse, and garden wall and gatepiers adjoining farm cottage, are not of special interest.
