House, now three dwellings. Late medieval; remodelled in early C17.
Colourwashed render over stone and cob; gabled roof, of slate to left and
asbestos sheet to right; left end stack of rendered stone; stone ridge stack
finished in late C19 brick;external right end stack of stone finished in C20
brick. Medieval house, of open-hall type, was remodelled in early C17 as a
2-story 3-unit plan with central hall. Two storeys; 4-window range. Three
C20 lean-to porches with C20 doors. Flat rendered arches over C20 casements
casements with glazing bars to right are set in chamfered C19 frames.
Interior:room to right has chamfered bressumer over open fireplace with inserted mid/late
C19 bread oven and chamfered beam. Central room has stone flag floor, stop-
chamfered beam, two C17 stop-chamfered doorframes, and chamfered bressumer over
open fireplace with cloam oven. Roof: early C17 three-bay A-frame roof with
curved collars, butt purlins and ridge purlin set in notched apexes; also has
original sawn rafters and early C17 moulded plaster cornices beneath collars
which suggests that early C17 ceiling was barrel-vaulted; beneath the truss
the left is the lower part of a late medieval raised cruck set into the front
wall. C17 A-frame over central hall, to left of ridge stack. Interior of
3 Ford Cottages not inspected.
