Farmhouse, now house. c,1700, altered. Coursed squared granite with quoins, rear
of uncoursed rubble, slate roof, brick chimneys. L-plan formed by 2-unit front
range with short rear wing to left, addition in angle; plus added side wings. Two
storeys and 2 bay, symmetrical; low chamfered plinth; central doorway with
granite surround moulded in 2 orders, with roll-stops to the jambs, and a
panelled door; 16-pane sashed windows on both floors, with exposed boxes (upper
left and lower right unhorned); bracketed eaves, gable chimneys. Attached at
each end are set-back one-bay single-storey wings, each with a doorway at the
junction (that to the right blocked) and a sashed window (4 and 16 panes
respectively), and embattled parapet. Rear wing has doorway in rear gable,
various sashed windows, and lean-to cellar attached to west side. Interior:
panelled doors with large H-hinges; dog-legged staircase with closed string,
square newels, stout turned balusters, and moulded handrail; original back door of
double-layered oak planks; large cellar to rear. Garden wall with railings and
gates, attached to the left side of the house and bounding the west side and
south end of the garden: side wall of granite rubble, ramped down from front of
wing, front wall of coursed dressed granite with wide concave bow in centre
filled by elegant wrought-iron spear-head railings on granite plinth, with
decorated standards, central gateway with tall open-work standards which have
flaming-urn finials, gate with dog-bars, a band of circles, and ramped top rail,
similarly decorated.
