LANSALLOS LANSALLOS STREET, (south side), SX 2050-2150 Polperro 6/62 The Court and Cottage adjoining to the east (previously listed as The 21.8.64 Court) GV II

House now 2 cottages. Circa late C17. Painted and rendered stone rubble with slate roof with gabled ends. Stone rubble chimney stack on left-hand gable end. Probably originally a 2-room and cross passage plan but now two 1-room plan cottages with entrances on either side of Mermaid Cottage (qv) a later wing projecting from front. Mermaid Cottage was probably added when the original 2-room house was subdivided into 2 cottages. 3 storeys, regular 3-window front. Cottage on left approached by flight of steps leading up to entrance with part glazed door with slate hood. C20 2-light casement with glazing bars above. To right, 3-storey elevation of The Court with 4-panelled door partly glazed beneath timber lintel with slate hood. 2-light casement without glazing bars on first and second floors. Interior not accessible. Reputed by Jonathan Couch to be one of the oldest houses in Polperro. Couch J. The History of Polperro 1871.
