ESTON LACKENBY LANE, Lackenby NZ 51 NE 7/17 Stables, byre, barn and fold-yard, c.l0m west of Old Hall Farmhouse G.V. II
Barn c.1800; stable ranges, in 2 builds, and byre early/mid C19. Mid C19 west extension to barn and roof over fold yard. Dressed sandstone; coursed sandstone rubble byre. Clay pantile roofs with stone ridge and gable copings. Covered foldyard with stable ranges on north and east sides, byre on west side and barn on south side. 2-storey barn has slit breathers on ground floor and off-centre doorways in north and south sides. Barn extension roof hipped at west end. Byre range has blocked openings in west face and slit breathers in both faces at north end. East stable has 5 stable doors in east face; gablet vents on roof ridge; roof hipped at north end. North stable has loft door in east gable and boarded doors in north face. Foldyard has hipped open-clerestoried roof on rectangular stone piers. Interiors: barn has angle-strut roof with 2 levels of butt purlins. Byre roof has queenpost trusses with kingposts on collars and 2 levels of through purlins. Late C19 engine house adjoining south face of barn, byre adjoining east end of barn and concrete mounting block adjoining north face of north stable, are not of special interest.
