Parts of 2 houses, combined to form one house. Circa 1500 and late C16, altered in C18, C19 and C20. Timber framed, plastered and weatherboarded, roofed with handmade red plain tiles. Complex plan comprising (1) at right, 2-bay parlour/ solar crosswing of hall house to right, c.1500 (items 9/108 and 9/109, q.v.), (2) one-bay extension to rear, with axial stack at the junction, C18, (3) to left of crosswing, one bay of long-jetty house to left, 1585, separated from the remainder by a vehicle way cut through the next bay, (item 9/112, q.v.), (4) one-bay wing to rear with axial stack at end, C16, (5) C19 single-storey extension beyond, with internal stack at rear left corner. 2 storeys with attic. Ground floor, 3 sashes, 1987. First floor, one early C19 sash of 10+10 lights and one of 15+15 lights, both with crown glass. Attic gable of crosswing, one C18/early C19 sash of 3+6 lights. C20 door. The left bay has a bressumer carved in high relief with grotesque beasts and scrolls, identical in detail with that of nos. 32 and 34 (Blackwater Cottage), item 9/112, and formerly part of the same jetty. The left return is weatherboarded on the lower storey only, and has on the first floor one early C19 sash of 12+12 lights and one of 4+4 lights. The rear elevation of the right rear wing is weatherboarded on the lower storey only, and has on the first floor one mid-C19 sash of 6 lights. The crosswing has an underbuilt jetty, wide plain joists of horizontal section, and a framed trap for a former stair at the left. All the ground-floor studding of the left (originally outside) wall has been removed. The first- floor studding is present, with a wide arched brace trenched to the inside. Early C19 quarter- turn stair with turned newels, moulded handrail and stick balusters; and on the first floor, one early C19 half-glazed door with 9 lights. Inserted studded partition between the 2 bays of the upper storey, with one panel of stick wattle and daub exposed behind glass. Arch-braced collar truss, the braces and collar hollow-chamfered, and clasped purlins. Block 3 has an underbuilt jetty, chamfered axial beam and chamfered joists of horizontal section with lamb's tongue stops, and straight braces trenched into the studding of the left cross-wall (now an outside wall). Clasped purlin roof. In course of conversion from shop to house at time of survey, August 1987. RCHM 70.
