Country house and detached service block with linking wall. Circa 1550, probably ceiled
C17, early C18 south-west addition, and internal redecoration, altered internally and
enlarged north and south sides mid C19, west wall brought forward mid C19 and entrance
re-sited on east front. Roughcast over random rubble,brick on west front centre, plinth,
slate roofs, coped verges, hipped roof to C18 addition,tall external stone stacks rising
north and south sides, U-plan; probably open hall house ceiled, with billiard room
addition south side, irregular shaped smoking room north side abutting powder closet
west front. Two and a half storeys, west front: 1:4:1 bays, C19 Tudor style fenestration,
left gable end 3-light windows, centre 4 single light leaded windows below quatrefoil
pierced parapet, 2-light windows ground floor, left one on site of blocked doorway to
original entrance, right gable end 2-light window to attic,3-light windows below, 2-bay
re-entrant angles. Two storey C18 extension single bay lit on right return (south front)
with 3-light casements; beyond on south front single storey flat roofed irregular shaped
smoking room extension, to right large external stack of kitchen. North front: single
storey 2-bay billiard room. Entrance on east front through gabled porch, C19 door,
Wall returned to south east of porch abutting 2-storey service block, unseen and said to
be in very poor condition at time if survey (April 1985). Interior: 2 fine late C16
plasterwork barrel vaulted bedrooms with overmantels, one dated 1593, late C16 and early
C18 panelling, including overmantel painting in bedroom, fine chimney piece of c1740
with swags and masks very similar to that at Halswell House (qv) Goathurst CP; small
bolection moulded fireplace in hall, otherwise much altered mid C19. In generally
poor condition at time of survey (April 1985),(Country Life, June 24, 1916),
