Details

WOOLASTON HIGH WOOLASTON ST 59 NE 10/277 High Woolaston Farmhouse and barn - II Farmhouse. Part 1600 much C18 and C19. Rendered, but outer wall of barn wing in sandstone rubble, roofs triple Roman tile back of main block, Welsh slate for majority of slopes, corrugated asbestos-cement to outer slope of barn. A U-plan plus minor extensions on south corner; the principal, centre block has large stack with moulded capping off-centre, right; a smaller capped stack to gable to road on wing, left, and a large external stack on the outer face of this wing near south end and a small stack at the ridge of main block, off-centre, left. Gabled ends except outer return of main 'L', roofs generally very steep. 2½ storeys, road elevation has in left gable a rectangular opening with iron bars to roof space, then set back centre a small 2-light hipped dormer over 2 broad 2-light C19 case- ments with bars, over two 16-pane sashes in broad sash boxes plus one 12-pane sash, all these with brick cills; the right gable a C19 2-light casement over garage doors. Facing courtyard, left are 2-light and 3-light C19 casements over a 12-pane sash, and, in corner a 4-centred chamfered C17 door opening; in opposite, barn wing, one plank door. Outer face of left wing various casements, and to barn small 2- light wood casements, and in gable, right, series of pigeon openings over a square opening, a 2-light casement and door. At back a plank door, left. Interior not seen. Fireplaces removed in 1950 bore the date 1600, and the building had been used for storage. (VCH Gloucestershire, Vol X, p 102 ff).
