House and adjacent pump. Dated 1893, being heightened on the east side early C20. Designed by Watson Fothergill for Mr. Marshall, extensions probably also carried out by Watson Fothergill. Red brick with blue brick and ashlar dressings. Plain tile roof, sprocketed eaves. 2 red brick stacks. West front set on a plinth with central moulded band and chamfered blue brick band over. Flush blue brick bands to ground floor sill and first floor with 2 bands to both the top of the ground and first floor windows. 2 storeys, 4 bays. 2 storey porch, single ashlar cross casement, to the right is a single buttress with bands. In the right wall is the doorway, the roof here projecting to form a lean-to hood and being supported on decorative wooden brackets, in turn supported on ashlar corbels. Double door with decorative iron hinges. Flush ashlar quoin surround, depressed ogee arch with small orb finial, further ashlar surround the left spandrel inscribed "WF" and the right "1893". The left side has a doorway with plank door and flush wedge lintel. To the right of the porch is a single sash with lead glazing bars to the top, flush wedge lintel. To the right of the porch is a single sash with lead glazing bars to the top, flush wedge lintel and moulded brick dripstone. The upper storey of the porch is polygonal with a conical roof topped with decorative ashlar finial. The 3 sides to the front each have a single large fixed light with lead glazing bars, transoms and mullion. The window on the left is lower than that to its right which is correspondingly lower than that further right, the brickwork under is stepped accordingly. In the outer walls is some herringbone brickwork. To the right of this bay is a single double sash with flush wedge lintel and drip mould, to the left is a single double sash. Adjacent the north wall is a single wood, lead and iron water pump with ashlar trough. To the left, set back,is a narrow projecting bay without openings and further left, set back, a 3 storey plus attic 2 bay wing with projecting porch with hipped roof, doorway in side wall with plank door and overlight and single fixed light to the left. On the first and second floors are single sashes with flush wedge lintels. Half hipped, half timbered attic with herringbone brick nogging and single small glazing bar light. To the left of this wing is a gabled 2 storey, 3 bay wing with plain bargeboard. Round archway leading to inner doorway with plank door. To the left is a single small pivotal casement and further left a doorway with plank door, both with flush wedge lintels and single brick drip mould over. Over the doorway are 3 slit ventilators. Above is a single sash with flush wedge lintel. Garden/south front of 2 storeys, 3 bays. Left single projecting bay with hipped roof and single iron ridge finial. Single canted bay under sloping roof supported on 4 wooden brackets. The front has 3 sashes and each side a single sash. All have single transoms with lead glazing bars over. To the right is a single small lead glazing bar sash with flush wedge lintel. Further right is a projecting bay with 3 sashes to the front,the single central sash being wider, and single sash to the left wall and doorway to the right. Each opening with single transom with lead glazing bars over. Flanking this bay are single wooden piers, these with further single outer piers support a sloping roof which extends over the right 2 bays and is hipped at the right. Above left and rising from the roof of the canted bay is a smaller canted bay, the roof of which is a continuation of the main roof and is supported on 2 brackets. There are 3 sashes each with single transom with lead glazing bars over. Under the windows the bay is half timbered with herringbone brick nogging. To the right is a single pair of sashes with flush wedge lintels. East side of 2 and 3 storeys plus attic, 4 bays. The left single bay being 2 storeys and gabled, the single bay to the right is of 3 storeys and embattled, the single bay further right is of 3 storeys plus attic and is half hipped and the single bay on the far right is of 2 storeys and is gabled. Having a doorway with glazed double door and flush wedge lintel. to the right is a single tripartite window, the left side being canted, with, to the left, a wooden bracket supported on an ashlar corbel. this supports the projecting first floor. Further right is a single slightly projecting bay with single tripartite cross casement, the left part being low and forming a doorway, flush wedge lintel over. On the far right is a single sash with similar lintel. Above single tripartite cross casement with lead glazing bars over the transom. to the right is a single sash and further right 3 double sashes. On the second floor is a single tripartite sash and to the right a single pair of sashes. In the half timbered attic with brick nogging is a single small glazing bar light. All windows have moulded surrounds, some with chamfered edges and broach stops. Most openings have flush wedge lintels. Interior. Good contemporary fittings including decorative plaster ceilings, varied moulded cornices, skirtings, panelled doors and fireplace. The stair case has a single column with foliate decorated capital.
