Supper room for the Corn Exchange (qv), now theatre, c1935;
designed by Robert Atkinson. When converted into theatre, the
adjacent, early C19 terraced house converted to box office,
which is included in this listing. The latter faced in stucco;
roof parapeted; 3 storeys over basement with one-window range.
The Pavilion Theatre of grey brick in Flemish bond with stone
dressings to all openings; hipped roof of metal. 3 storeys
with 2-storey aisle wing to the right. Stylised version of
Islamic architectural forms, similar to Atkinson's Corn
Exchange Theatre, New Road (qv). Main elevation: a pair of
tower-like bays flank a centre bay, the 3 sections share a
lotus parapet which returns. First floor theatre retains
proscenium arch with geometrical motifs, Moorish inspired
ceiling and 3 Moorish arches at the back of the auditorium.
Included for its group value with the Dome and Corn Exchange
(qv).
