Terraced houses, most have been converted to guest houses.
Early C19. Stucco. Roofs of slate to Nos 2-4, and 5, to No.14,
slate turnerised; tile roofs to Nos 6-10, and 15; roofs
obscured by parapet on the rest.
EXTERIOR: No.11, 3 storeys over basement; Nos 2, 10, 12A, 3
storeys and dormers over basement; No.5, 4 storeys over
basement; Nos 3-4, 6-9, 14-15, 4 storeys over basement. 2
windows each. All openings are flat arched. Stairs up to
entries with overlights, that to No.15 having decorative
glazing. All entries paired, framed by fluted pilasters and
console brackets. Over the paired entries of Nos 2-3, 6-9, and
14-15 are segmental pediments consisting of a raking cornice
and a tympanum decorated with a sunburst. Entrances to Nos
4-5, 10-11, and 12-12A are framed by attached, fluted columns
and entablature of the Doric order; entablature to Nos 4-5
partly gone. Each unit has a tall bay with tripartite windows
to the side of the entrance: those to Nos 2, 4-7, 9, 11, and
12A are canted; all but Nos 5 and 12A, which stop just short
of the cornice, are full height. Nos 3, 8, 10, 12, and 14-15
have full-height, segmental bays. Each unit has a rusticated
ground floor; the rustication is banded to Nos 2-4 and 7-12A.
Cornice with parapet to Nos 2, 4-9, 11, and 12A, with cornice
interrupted on Nos 5 and 8. Attic to No.12 has blocking
course. Nos 3 and 10 have storey bands; Nos 2-4, 7, and 9 have
stringcourses. Balconies and cast-iron railings to first-floor
bay windows of Nos 2-4, 6, 9, and 14-15, Nos 4, 9, and 14
having cast-iron brackets as well. Balconies and railings
across entire first floor at Nos 11-12A, all supported by
cast-iron brackets. Flat-arched dormers to Nos 2-4, 6-10 and
12A-15. Across the elevations of Nos 12-12A run a continuous
pilastrade of Composite order through the first and second
floors. On the join of the 2 units is a plain rectangular
plaque supported on console brackets. Stacks to alternate
party walls.
INTERIOR: not inspected.
Railings to stairs and areas.
Nos 1-15 form a group with Nos 18-24, and 28-31 New Steine
(qv).
