05/08/75 GV II Large detached house. Mid C19.
MATERIALS: Limestone ashlar south front, dressed stone elsewhere, slate roof.
EXTERIOR: Entrance front, to north, three sections, centre range higher, in two storeys with attics, having two twelve-pane sashes at first floor, with large centred eighteen-pane plus margin panes stair sash. Square stone porch with pilasters, off centre left, has six-panel door, and to right are small light and twelve-pane sash. Unit has moulded cornice, blocking course and parapet. To left lower wing has cornice, at lower level, and one small opening, and to right, in ashlar, twelve-pane above four-pane. Roof hipped, with paired dormer to west. East side has wrought iron trellis porch to side entrance. South front, set near edge of dramatic drop into the valley, has three large twelve-pane sashes at each level, and full height canted bay to right, also with twelve-pane sashes, all with cornice, blocking course and parapet, returned at ends. Lower block attached to right, continued to garden boundary wall swept up to house front. Two large ashlar stacks at each end.
INTERIOR: Inspected by Bath Council 1990. Good white and Sienna fireplace, regency grate. Six-panel door, three/three rectangular panels. Formerly in extensive gardens, this is largest villa of group built at this time, including those in Belmont Road (qv) to the west, to take advantage of extensive views of countryside to the south.
