12/06/50 GV II House, now flats. c1790-1793 with C19 and C20 alterations. By John Palmer.
MATRIALS: Limestone ashlar to front, rubble to basement, render to left side, rubble to rear, Welsh slate double pile parapeted mansard roof hipped to left with coped party walls to left and right, two ashlar stacks to right. House on corner of Park Street and Park Street Mews, staircase to rear.
EXTERIOR: Three storeys, attic and basement, three-window range. First floor has three six/six-horned sashes in plain reveals with stone sills, second floor has three similar sashes without horns, ground floor has two similar horned sashes to rear, door to left with later alterations to bottom half has two fielded panels and single glazed panel to top and cast iron knocker in plain reveal with one pennant step in pedimented Doric doorcase, one step to pennant paved crossover with wrought iron footscraper. Basement has two six/six-sashes in plain reveals with continuous stone sill, C20 glazed door under crossover, C20 area steps. Triple dormer with six/six-sashes. Band course over ground floor, frieze, moulded eaves cornice and coped parapet lowered to centre. Rear elevation probably rebuilt to staircase to right has six/six-sashes in plain reveals with stone sills, C20 glazed doors to basement.
INTERIOR: Not inspected.
SUBSIDIARY FEATURES: Attached wrought iron railings to left of front door with shaped heads on limestone bases, railings and gate to right of front door with urn tops on limestone bases.
HISTORY: Part of incomplete St James's Square development on land leased by Fielder, King, Hewlett and Broom from Sir Peter Rivers Gay 25 March 1790; lower part of Park Street forms one of the four diagonal approaches to St James's Square.
