12/06/50 GV II House, now flats. c1790-1793 with C19 and C20 alterations. By John Palmer.
MATERIALS: Limestone ashlar to front, rubble to basement, rubble to rear, artificial slate double pile parapeted mansard roof with coped party wall with two ashlar stacks to right with some early clay pots.
EXTERIOR: Three storeys, attic, basement and sub-basement, two-window range. First floor has two six/six horned sashes in plain reveals with stone sills, to right with splayed reveal and simple balconette, second floor has two similar windows without horns, to right with splayed reveal and simple balconette, ground floor has similar horned six/six-sash with splayed reveal with balconette to right, to left six-panel door with beaded, fielded and one glazed panel, in plain reveal with pennant step in pedimented Doric doorcase, two steps to pennant paved crossover. Basement has one six/six-sash in splayed reveal with stone sill, blocked opening to sub-basement, C20 door and window in ashlar infilling under crossover, area steps gone. Two single dormers with six/six-sashes in moulded architraves. Band course over ground floor, frieze, moulded eaves cornice and coped parapet. Rear elevation has early glazing bar sashes with simple balconettes to first and second floors, C19 two/two-sashes with similar balconettes to ground floor, relieving arches over lintels to ground floor windows, lead hopper and two lead lengths to downpipe to rear right.
INTERIOR: Not inspected.
SUBSIDIARY FEATURES: Attached wrought iron railings and gate with pointed heads on limestone bases.
HISTORY: Part of incomplete St James's Square development on land leased by Fielder, King, Hewlett and Broom from Sir Peter Rivers Gay 25 March 1790; lower part of Park Street forms one of the four diagonal approaches to St James's Square.
