05/08/75 GV II House, subdivided into flats now re-occupied as one house. Mid C18 and early C19 with C20 alterations.
MATERIALS: Limestone ashlar to front, rubble to basement, ashlar and rubble to rear. Double-pile parapeted roof, to front and rear, with staircase to rear.
EXTERIOR: Four storeys and basement, four-window front. First floor has four C19 four/four sashes in cyma moulded architraves with lowered stone sills with C19 balconettes and blind boxes. Second floor has two six/six sashes in splayed reveals with splays run out to corners with stone sills, third floor has two C19 six/six horned sashes in similar reveals. Ground floor has to right three six/six sashes in splayed reveals with stone sills with C19 balconettes, sills possibly lowered and raised to original position, to left six-panel door with fielded panels with three-pane overlight set within deep panelled reveal with doorcase with Doric pilasters and full entablature with pulvinated frieze. Basement has three six/six sashes with thick glazing bars in splayed reveals, six-panel door with upper two panels glazed in chamfered reveal. Attached pennant paved terrace on two vaults with solid stone balustrade with moulded coping with dies topped by stone urns, approached by flight of steps to front and with further steps to front door over area, C20 railings probably replacing stone to area. Shallow band course over ground floor; bracketed eaves cornice formerly at eaves, over first floor, moulded cornices over second floor and third floor and coped parapet. Three mazed panels of similar proportions to windows to each of second floor and third floor. Right side has six/six sash to basement with thick glazing bars hexagonal glazing below said by owners to have been further windows of this pattern in house removed and built into garage at No.15 Lansdown Place East; six/six sashes to ground floor, second floor and third floor, Crittall window to first floor. Rear elevation has stair turret with intersecting glazing bars to round headed window with fat glazing bars to first half-landing, six/six sashes with fat glazing bars to first floor and second floor, six/six sash to third floor. C20 concrete blockwork extension to ground floor. C20 fire escape from first floor.
INTERIOR: Ground floor, front right: early C19 marble fireplace; heavy timber modillion cornice; dado panelling; very fat ovolo architraves; six-panel ovolo-in door and pair of six-panel double doors. Thin glazing bars to three sashes split shutters with total of three panels. C19 chimneybreast cupboard. Ground floor, rear: no fireplace; cornice gone now with cove, half glazed door with margin glazing formerly to garden; fat ovolo glazing bars; ovolo architrave to former chimney breast cupboard. Oak well staircase; three turned balusters to a tread, painted balusters; oak handrail; dado panelling; deep coved run cornice to inner and outer wall; timber arch. Egg and dart cornice in basement front left. Ground floor, front right: blocked range arch; lots of Victorian boarding (beaded) dado. Hexagonal lower sash probably re-used. Staircase continues with plainer balusters to basement. First half-landing staircase: intersecting glazing bars enriched moulded shutters and architrave; face at apex. First floor, rear right: room now subdivided; plaster panels; coved cornice, said to have had paintings in panels, painted over 1950's. Plasterwork to soffit of window of window reveal. Enriched acanthus stone fire surround. First floor subdivided 1950's; C19 enriched marble fireplace; cornice gone. Early C19 reeded architraves with rounded corners, no architrave to door; C19 mouldings to door part of room to left has two architraves to match, again no cornice. Staircase: two turned balusters to a tread; softwood above first floor. Second floor, front right: small stone surround with little reeded shelf run cornice; six-panel ovolo doors. Second floor, front left: reeded fireplace; similar cornice to next door ovolo shutters; door. Second floor, rear right: fireplace and cornice as front left; fat ovolo glazing bars, re-used from downstairs. Top-floor: ovolo fireplace, probably from downstairs front right; rear right fat ovolo glazing bars as downstairs. Front left fireplace as front right; rear left fat ovolo glazing bars as others.
