Three terrace houses, returning to Stanhope Place. 1764-1770 with C19 alterations. MATERIALS: Limestone ashlar, little rubble in rear, slate roofs, some double Roman tile to rear. PLAN: Generous town houses with deep mansard roof, lower to No.32 than other two, with entry and staircase to right. EXTERIOR: Three storeys, attic and basement, each single bay wide, all sashes. No.32 has wide three-light dormer above paired sashes in splayed surrounds, twelve-pane to second floor and plain below, with two twelve-pane to basement, above ground floor windows wooden lintel. Six-panel door in architrave, with cornice. Stack to the left on steep coped party division, shared with No.31 (qv). No.33 has two-light dormer with paired sashes, all plain, at first floor with balconette, two to basement, door and doorcase as to No.32. Stack to left. No.34 has two-light dormer above tripartite sash, eight:twelve:eight-pane to second floor and plain to first floor, with balconette, paired to ground floor and twelve-pane plus door to basement. Main door, extreme right, in Doric doorcase with complete entablature and pediment. Stack to right. All have platband above ground floor, modillion cornice, blocking course and parapet, returned to side, but without modillions, straight masonry joint between Nos 31 and 32, and terrace steps up at this point. Stack to left, roof returns as hipped mansard. Lead downpipe between Nos 32 and 33. Return, to Stanhope Place, has two-light dormer above three-bays, second floor with blind light and two twelve-pane sashes, first floor three plain sashes, and ground floor two plain sashes. Rear has single dormer to each, above staggered plain sashes, and with small extensions at lower ground level. INTERIORS: Not inspected. SUBSIDIARY FEATURES: Basement areas enclosed by simple railings on stone curb, returned at doorways. End houses in long terrace with broad consistency of detail, but with variations in elevations, building was in small sections, marked, by straight joints.
