METALLURGICAL ANALYSIS OF IRON ARTEFACTS FROM LOVEDEN HILL, LINCOLNSHIRE.

Five knives and a pair of shears from the 5th - 7th century cemetery at Loveden Hill, Lincs were examined metallographically. The results showed that they were either all steel (Manufacturing Type 3) or had a central core of steel (Manufacturing Type 1). Only one had been quenched hardened.
