DENDROCHRONOLOGICAL ANALYSIS OF WOOD FROM ALCESTER, 1985-86.

Author(s): C Groves

Tree-ring analysis was carried out on 31 samples from timbers excavated at Alcester during 1985-86. Twenty oak samples were from a foundation trench of the mid 4thcentury town wall and eleven alder samples were from a foundation trench for a bastion added to the wall in thelate 4th century. No reliable absolute dating was obta-ined but some relative dating was produced for both the oak and the alder samples.
