COPTHALL AVENUE, CITY OF LONDON. POLLEN ANALYSIS.

Author(s): R G Scaife

Pollen analysis has been carried out on samples from Roman organic deposits recovered from the channel of theRiver Walbrook in the City of London. This analysis has produced a markedly diverse range of herb pollen types which are attributed to a range of habitats. These include plants which are characteristic of wet ground, urban wastelands and taxa perhaps introduced indirectly from dumped organic waste. Comparisons are made with pollen samples which have been analysed from the Temple of Mithras excavated by Professor W.F. Grimes.
