LATE ROMAN SPOON MOULDS FROM CASTLEFORD, WEST YORKSHIRE.

Author(s): Justine Bayley, P Budd

About 800 fragments from a minimum of 52 clay moulds forcasting purse-shaped spoons were examined. The moulds were of two piece construction and were assembled into composites so that about 16 spoons were cast at once in a cone-shaped assembly. Surviving metal traces suggest that the spoons were made of leaded gunmetal.
