PALAEOECOLOGICAL STUDIES OF THREE BRONZE AGE 'BURNT FLINT' SITES NEAR WEST ROW, MILDENHALL, SUFFOLK

Samples were collected at sites MNL 124, MNL 137 and MNL204 for dating and analysis of wood, charcoal, fruits, seeds etc,molluscs and bone. The aims were to establish the dates,local environment and function of these sites.MNL 124 was dated to 1770bc and MNL 137 to 1700bc; the date for MNL 204 is awaited. All three sites were located in woodland clearances in or close to areas of fen, carr or marsh. MNL 204 produced bone and charred cereals, implying food consumption at the site, but thismay not have been its primary function.
