ANALYSIS OF MEDIEVAL DISTILLATION VESSELS FROM TOWER HILL, LONDON

Author(s): M P Heyworth

A large number of fragments of distillation vessels were found during excavations at Tower Hill from a seventeenth/eighteenth century context. Analysis of the deposits inside the vessels showed they were likely to have been used in the production of nitric acid which would been used for the parting of precious metals.
