Charred seeds and charcoal were identified from five samples from cultivation terraces thought to be of Roman origin. Birch, oak, ling, hawthorn, alder and willow charcoal were found. Spelt/bread wheat and barley grains were found along with seeds of buttercup, charlock, fairy flax, ribwort plantain and sedge nutlets. The significance of each species is discussed.
