CHARRED CEREALS AND OTHER PLANT REMAINS FROM THE SAXON SETTLEMENT AT BARROW HILLS.

Charred plant remains from a rural middle Saxon site produced crop remains of bread wheat (Triticum aestivum s.l.), six-row hulled barley (Hordeum sativum), and oat (Avena sp.). Plants of grassland and wetland, not likely to have been crop weeds are also present, possibly representing the remains of thatch, flooring, bedding or hay.
