THE TREE-RING DATING OF THE NAVE ROOF, CHURCH OF ST MICHAEL AND ALL ANGELS, TIRLEY, GLOUCESTERSHIRE

Author(s): Daniel Miles

Twelve timbers were sampled from the nave roof of the church of St Michael and All Angels, Tirley, Gloucestershire (SO 840 284) in 1998 following completion of a thorough programme of recording and some minor repairs to the roof structure. Despite two timbers being combined to form a 95-ring site master, no conclusive matches were found with dated reference chronologies. The rest of the timbers were assessed, as were those from the chancel roof, but were deemed unsuitable for dendrochronology primarily due to short ring sequences.
