Geophysical Surveys of the Northumberland and Restoration on The Goodwin Sands

Author(s): Pascoe Archaeology

In 2020 Pascoe Archaeology was commissioned by Historic England to conduct multi-beam echo sounder (MBES), sub-bottom profiler (SBP) and magnetometer surveys on the designated wrecks of the Northumberland and the Restoration on the Goodwin Sands. This was stage 1 of a two-stage project with the aims of continued monitoring and recording these vulnerable sites and to enhance the understanding of buried, as well as exposed, archaeological material. The result of these surveys will inform future management strategies. The surveys were successfully conducted on the 9-10 November 2020 by Spectrum Offshore Ltd. The survey vessel was Spectrum II with George Townsend as the chief surveyor leading survey operations following a clear survey plan laid out by MSDS Marine based on the aims and objectives of the project.
