TREE-RING ANALYSIS OF TIMBERS FROM WATERFRONT STRUCTURES AT BRISTOL BRIDGE, 1980-81.

Author(s): C Groves, J Hillam

Timbers associated with the construction and development of the medieval waterfront at Bristol Bridge were examined at the Sheffield Dendrochronology Laboratory. A site master curve covering the period AD 1039-1235 was produced. The results are compared with those from a previous study of ten re-used boat timbers from the same site. The results were unexpected in that the re-used boat timbers appeared to be contemporary or of a later date than the timbers that were thought to be primary.
