BIRD BONES FROM ANNETWELL STREET, CARLISLE, CUMBRIA, 1980-84

Author(s): E P Allison

Bird bones recovered from Roman deposits by hand-trowelling and sieving were examined. The largest assemblage was from Period 3. Unusually for a Roman site, wild-fowling appears to have been an important source of bird meat, with flocks of migrant wild geese being a valuable local resource during the autumn and winter months.
