TREE-RING ANALYSIS OF TIMBERS FROM SWAYLANDS BARN, PENSHURST, KENT

Author(s): Alison Arnold, Robert Howard, R R Laxton, Cliff Litton

Dendrochronological analysis was undertaken on ten samples from oak timbers at these premises. A site chronology, SWAASQ01, of 102 rings was constructed from six of these samples. This site chronology was sucessfully matched at a first-ring date of AD 1515 and a last-ring date of AD 1616, with a felling date thought to be c AD 1620. Attempts to date the remaining four samples individually were unsuccessful.
