THE POSSIBLE FULLER'S EARTH CONTENT OF SOILS FROM THE EXCAVATIONS AT SOLESBRIDGE, HERTS.

Author(s): Matt Canti

A lined pit from the excavations at Solesbridge, Bucks. was hypothetically interpreted as a fulling site. Soil materials from within the pit have been compared with those outside to assess the possible fuller's earth content, using particle size analysis of the whole soil, and X-ray diffraction of the sub-20um separates. The results show no excess montmorillonite clays in the pit samples over and above the levels typically found in chalk soils.
