The Archaeological Wood Survey: A Review of the Potential and Problems of Waterlogged Structural Wood

Author(s): Nigel Nayling

Using data gathered during the survey, this report assesses the nature and quantity of structural waterlogged wood excavated from 1968 to 1987 in England, Scotland and Wales. Contributions by John Coles (the approach to waterlogged wood internationally) and Jacqui Watson (conservation techniques) place the material in a wider context. The synthesis and discussion aim to highlight difficulties with particular reference to conservation/retention and make a number of tentative suggestions.
