Priory House, 33 High Street South, Dunstable, Bedfordshire: Tree-Ring Analysis of Oak Timbers

Author(s): Alison Arnold, Robert Howard, Cathy Tyers

Dendrochronological analysis was undertaken on cores from 10 different oak timbers to the roof and basement of Priory House, Dunstable. This analysis produced a single dated site chronology, DSBASQ01, accounting for a total of five samples, all of them from the roof timbers. This site chronology is 75 rings long, these rings dated as spanning the years AD 1677–1751. Interpretation of the sapwood on the five dated samples gives a likely estimated felling date for these timbers as lying within the period AD 1752–74. The remaining five samples, one from the roof and all four from the basement, are ungrouped and undated.
