TECHNICAL ANALYSIS OF METALWORKING DEBRIS FROM SNETTISHAM BYPASS, NORFOLK

Author(s): C Mortimer

Around eighty crucible and mould sherds examined. Several cricible fragments were identified as being of a late Iron Age form. A piece mould technology was used at the site. Some of the moulds may have been used to make terret rings and other artefact forms. Qualitative X-ray fluorescence analysis of the moulds and crucibles suggests that copper alloys, containing zinc, tin and lead were in use at the site.
