TREE-RING ANALYSIS OF TIMBERS FROM WARE PRIORY, HIGH STREET, WARE, HERTFORDSHIRE

Author(s): Robert Howard, R R Laxton, Cliff Litton

Dendrochronological analysis was undertaken of samples from sixteen oak timbers of the crown-post and the scissor-braced roofs at Ware Priory. This resulted in the production of a single site chronology of 194 years spanning the period AD 1223 - 1416. Interpretation of the sapwood on the samples indicates that most of the timbers were felled in AD 1416, although four of the timbers were felled in AD 1391, AD 1394, AD 1395, and AD 1410.
